Athlete
Akilah Franklin is a black belt fighter in Taekwondo with Olympic aspirations who competes Nationally and Internationally. Over the past 10 years, she has been fortunate to have been able to develop my skills and talents that have allowed her to compete at an elite level. She was the USA Taekwondo national champion in 2014 and in 2018. Akilah was selected in 2019 to be a member of Taekwondo Association National Team, the USA Junior National Team, and the AAU National Team. She has been consistently ranked number in the top 3 in the nation in the USA Cadet and Junior Divisions. In 2019 Akilah was named a USA Taekwondo All-American.
She trained in Korea three times for a 6-week summer taekwondo camp with top athletes from around the world in the summers of 2017, 2018 and 2019 . Additionally, she has twice attended extensive training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. Also, Akilah trained at the La Loma Training Center, a state of the art, high altitude training center in Mexico, where many Olympic athletes come to train. While she was there she competed in an international tournament and took home the gold medal for the USA. In the Fall of 2020, Akilah trained for 20-days camp at the Olympic Training Center where Olympic coaches assessed her for the 2028 Olympic Development Team. In the winter of 2020 Akilah represented the United States at the Taekwondo US Open and won the Silver medal.
